Do you have age limit for pets coming into salon?

Yes. We have established age limits for grooming—13 years for small dogs, 12 years for medium and large dogs, and 10 years for extra-large breeds. This policy is in place because we do not have a veterinarian on staff or on call, and the safety and well-being of your pet is our top priority. We want to minimize any health risks that may arise due to age, especially in the absence of medical personnel. Our team is not trained to perform medical procedures, and we advise against having senior pets groomed in any salon without qualified veterinary support.

How much will my dog's grooming cost?

We believe that every dog has unique needs and requirements to achieve a quality service. That’s why our pricing is specific to each dog on an individual and personal level. Breed, coat type, coat condition, and style of haircut are all key points in pricing our clients correctly. Consultations are always free, and even though we will try to pinpoint our best with an over the phone estimate, please know prices are subject to change but always to be communicated with the owner prior to providing service. Calling and speaking to one of our team members over the phone is the best way to obtain pricing and service answers. (Please allow 24 hours to return messages)

Dogs requiring haircuts typically stay with us for 3 to 4 hours, while those booked for our cleanse and blow-dry service are with us for 2 to 3 hours. We take our time with each pet to ensure their visit is as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Expedited services are available for an additional fee and must be scheduled in advance prior to the appointment.

No!! Double-coated breeds, such as Golden Retrievers, Siberian Huskies, and Labradors, rely on their coats for insulation—not only from cold weather but also from heat. Shaving these breeds can compromise the coat’s ability to grow back properly, potentially leaving your dog uncomfortable in anything other than mild conditions. We strongly advise against shaving unless necessary due to health concerns, old age, difficulty tolerating brushing, or if specifically recommended by your veterinarian.

We generally recommend grooming your dog every 6 to 8 weeks, not only to maintain their health and hygiene but also to establish a consistent schedule. Pets thrive on structure and routine, and regular grooming helps reinforce this. For Doodle breeds, grooming is typically recommended every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on coat length. In addition to professional grooming, consistent at-home care—such as regular brushing and combing—is essential in preventing matting, which could otherwise necessitate shaving.

We recommend bringing your puppy in for grooming shortly after their final set of puppy vaccinations, typically around 16 weeks of age. To encourage early acclimation to grooming, we offer the ‘Banana Pup’ package at a discounted rate for puppies five months and under. This package introduces your puppy to essential grooming practices, including bathing, brushing, combing, nail trimming, and the use of a blow dryer. For long-haired puppies, we also include light trimming around the face, paws, and sanitary areas. As grooming will be a lifelong routine, we aim to make each visit a happy and positive experience!

We require that your pet is up to date on their rabies vaccination unless a written exemption is provided by your veterinarian. Additionally, we recommend ensuring your pet is vaccinated against Parvo, distemper, and kennel cough when they are in environments with other animals. Vaccination records will be requested when scheduling your appointment.

Unfortunately, due to insurance policies, we are unable to permit owners in the grooming area. Additionally, we’ve found that dogs often become anxious or overly excited when their owners are present, as they anticipate leaving. Similar to children at preschool, dogs tend to settle and relax once their owners are out of sight. To help them acclimate, we allow time for the dog to explore and familiarize themselves with the salon. Since dogs are highly intuitive and can sense your emotions, it’s important to remain calm and reassuring during the drop-off process.

Absolutely. While our highly-rated I-Groom product line is specially formulated to support a healthy coat and skin, we also offer fragrance-free and hypoallergenic options as needed. All of our premium shampoos are included at no additional cost. If your veterinarian has prescribed or recommended a specific shampoo, we are happy to accommodate and use it in place of our products.

Ruff & Tumble is not a kennel-free facility. During your dog’s stay, they will have the chance to roam the salon, but may occasionally be placed in a kennel for brief periods to ensure their safety or to maintain a rotation between kennel time and free roaming, allowing all dogs the opportunity to socialize. If your dog is not comfortable around other dogs or if you prefer they be kept separate, please inform our staff. We will happily provide them with their own space and water until pick-up. If you prefer your dog not to be kenneled at all, please let us know at drop-off, and we will make the necessary accommodations.

No! At Ruff & Tumble, we do not use kennel dryers. All drying is done by hand to ensure the comfort and safety of your pet. If your dog is sensitive to the hand dryer, we may need to spend additional time working with them to ensure a stress-free experience and their coat is as dry as possible.

Is there a cancellation policy?

Yes! We understand situations arise when you may need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. To do so, we request that you notify us 24 hours in advance. This allows us time to offer your slot to another client on our waiting list. In the event you need to cancel inside 24 hours, a 50% deposit will be taken and/or applied to your dogs grooming services on the day of you rescheduled appointment.
